Symbols on the proposed electronic (LED) sign for Low’s:
The “Luther Rose” is the symbol which unites all Lutheran churches–it is on the
right-hand side of the sign header. It was designed by Martin Luther in 1530. It
features a black cross on a red heart, placed within a white rose, a blue field, and a
gold ring. It represents faith in Christ’s sacrifice (black cross), the peace it brings
(white rose), heavenly joy (blue for sky), and eternal life (gold ring).
The Evangelical Lutheran Church logo is on the left of the sign. The design is a
globe intersected by a cross. This symbolizes the cross of Christ and the church’s
mission and ministry to the entire world. Each quadrant of the globe is also
intersected by a cross. The colors of the logo represent the following:
● Red: Symbolizes energy, the fire of the Holy Spirit, or the blood of Christ.
● Blue: Associated with hope and the global mission of the church.
● Yellow/Gold:: Traditionally represents the light of Christ and the divinity of
God.
● Green: Symbolizes growth in faith and life
